My trip to the Netherlands
A few weeks ago I traveled to Amsterdam for a short family friends visit. I used my free Sunday to go around Amsterdan'sĀ art museums.
In the same area, there are a few art museums:Ā Rijksmuseum Museum (19th-century Dutch Golden Age painting masterpieces), Van Gogh Museum, Moco Museum (modern and pop-art museum), and the Stedelijk Museum (contemporary art museum).
It turnsĀ out that museums in Amsterdam are quite expensive. Knowing a museum experience can be quite energy-consuming for me, I decided to visit only one museum this time. Being the big contemporary fan that I am (and I already visited the Van Gogh Museum a few years ago), I went to the Stedelijk Museum.
I traveled during complicated times. Right next to the museum, in the Museumplein,Ā there was a huge climate change protest that somehow turned into a pro-Palestinian protest. This made me very sad and frustrated, as I feel that many who are not fully knowledgeableĀ about the Oct 7th attack, and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict general, are quick and too privilegedĀ to pick a side. As an Israeli, it feels very lonelyĀ to visit cultural attraction points when right beside me people are shouting flat slogans while abandoning intellectualĀ and emotional complexity. I was hoping that during my trip I'd have some distance from it all, but our war is apparently everywhere.
Luckily, when I was entering the museum, I saw a line of protest signs left outside. It gave me some hope that some cultural institutes are keeping space political-free for visitors.
The museum
The Stedelijk is in a beautiful building space. It has 3 different levels of exhibitions. The perminant exhibition is at the top floor, special exhibition like of Nan Goldin are at the bottom level.
As I said, the museumd in Amsterdam are quite expensive. The entrance to this one costs 22,50ā¬.
The shopping corner š
My favorite part about visiting museums around the world - the gift store.
Here the store is in the open space of the museum entry, with a nice range of design products and books. I always check the tote bags and posters.
The tote bags were pretty but didn't seem to be made of the best material. The posters were nice, I found some nice graphic posters which I have been looking for for a while now. But as I knew I'd buy a poster from the Van Gogh shop, I didn't get anything this time.
