I redesigned the art website of Susanne Jung Susanne Jung is an artist, and her work follows a painting style that integrates color-field painting in an abstract and minimal form. , a contemporary artist working in Berlin.
The new website has clear work categories, text by exhibitions, and is visually curated with new a look positioning in the digital sphere.

🎯 The Goal

Jung has expressed the main goal of the website is to display her artworks online, and use it as a contact channel for users interested in her teaching workshops.

⛰️ The Challenge

How can I improve the digital experience of Jung's website in a way that properly displays and communicates the value of her work, while easing on the user's journey exploring her artistic world?

🔎 The Research

Research methods applied:
• 3 x Interviews (1 Stakeholder, 1 SME, 1 User)
• 3 x Usability testing
• Business and competitive Research

The SME (a professional art curator) expressed the importance of browsing through chronological art development when reviewing artists' works online. In addition, being able to review used techniques and explanation of the artistic decisions.

Adding a large number of artworks to the website has created an information architecture challenge. Low-fi prototyping and testing, as well as talks with the artists about her artistic vision, resulted in the solution of organizing the artworks by categories, with a focus on the high-demand technique to be presented first.

🖥 The Design

Exploring Jung's work and artistic inspiration online lead to my art direction decision to curate the website in a minimal and geometric way. I was strongly inspired by indie art website designs and gallery editorial design grid for the website's layout.

📈 The Outcome

The new website is addressing both main goals of the website. All works are displayed in a clean and minimal manner, and organized by categories and chronological order. In addition, Jung’s contact details and professional references are all found on the same info page, with a contact form.

Testing the website has generated positive feedback from both the artists and users.

🌱 Key learning

As a product designer, I learned the importance of accurate information architecture for future scalability. By considering both user needs and stakeholder perspectives, I refined the product structure to create a clearer and more adaptable foundation.
